Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited the fire-ravaged Khidirpur market on Wednesday and launched a sharp attack on the state government. Standing amid the charred remains, Adhikari called the incident a “planned conspiracy” and demanded accountability from the administration.
Adhikari raised critical questions about the delay in emergency response. “If the fire broke out around 1 am, why did the fire engines reach only at 4 am?” he asked, suggesting possible foul play and systemic failure. According to him, the delayed action cost traders their livelihoods and pointed to deeper lapses in governance.
He also questioned the infrastructure of the market and claimed that safety protocols were clearly missing. “This market was allowed to run in such unsafe conditions—who is responsible for that?” he said. Adhikari urged an independent probe and compensation for affected shopkeepers.
The Khidirpur fire has triggered political tension, with the opposition demanding transparency and accusing the ruling government of gross negligence.
